34 mayors have
served in Gretna

Since the Village of Gretna
was incorporated in 1899 it
has had 34 mayors appointed
to office.

During this time Gretna
has had only three two-term
mayors. The first was
William Siekkoter, mayor of
Gretna from 1921-1933. F.L.
Oberst was in office from
1933-1941 and Joe Verbeek
served from 1971-1980. One
mayor, Thomas Lonergan,
died in office in 1905.
